Donald Young | Game Designer


I am a positive and passionate creator, experienced in working with large and small teams, collaborating with all disciplines, and using both proprietary and industry standard tools, editors, and workflows.  Over my career, I’ve strived to learn, lead, and promote an inclusive and collaborative working environment.

I have four years of experience in content and system design for open-world gameplay, and am proficient in the visual scripting and world editing tools for Volition’s CTG Editor, as well as five years of experience in Unreal Engine 4.


Experience

Deep Silver Volition  |  Designer II June 2018 – Present

Encounter Designer on Saints Row (2020 – present), an over-the-top and high-action open-world game.  Responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of quality for combat encounters in the campaign and open world activities.  Collaborated with content creators to establish a framework for creating robust encounters, outlining standards for encounter types, pacing and intensity, and best practices for implementation with the combat systems.

System Designer on Saints Row (2018 – 2020).  Responsible for designing and implementing the game’s weapon and enemy ability systems, as well as the weapon customization systems.  Collaborated with the Art, VFX, Animation, and Programming teams to create the diverse weapons, enemies, and combat systems in the game.

Deep Silver Volition  |  QA Analyst  |  March 2017 – June 2018

QA Analyst on Agents of Mayhem, an open-world third-person action game released in August 2017.  Responsible for finding, reproducing, and documenting bugs for character ability progression and game build stability.  

Anvil Drop  |  Lead Designer  |  June 2013 – March 2017

Lead Designer of Anomaly 1729, an indie 3D puzzle adventure game released in December 2015, created in Unreal Engine 4.  Led a 14 person team, guiding the vision for the game’s art style and world design, user interface, story, and music.  Designed and implemented the gameplay systems, level layouts, and puzzles.
